Cryptiq vs GIMPressionist
As GIMPressionist now has adopted all of Cryptiq's functionality, it might be in place with a small introduction to how to achive similar results. Here's a few paragraphs from a mail I sent;
Hmm, I'm aware that it might look a bit complicated. Hopefully I'll (or someone else will) get around to write a decent tutorial soon. If you haven't already, have a look at www.thegimp.com, which had an article with a walkthru-style introduction a few months ago. If I recall correctly, I added a Preset to the latest version, named MarbleMadness (named after an ancient C64 game) which comes quite close. Things to remember when trying to simulate Cryptiq; - Select a .ppm brush (e.g. ball.ppm) - Set Brush-relief to 100.0 (when using the .ppm brushes, relief is analogous to highlight) - Use only 1 orientation - Use plenty of sizes, 15-20 at least, ranging from min 5-6 to 30-40 - Use Adaptive size-selection And if you want; - Drop Shadows with approx 5.0 darkening - Stroke density to as-much-as-possible ;-) Hope this helps a bit. :)BTW, the shadow effect will be much more like the original once I get the rest of the options into the dialog. (Shadow depth/distance and blurring, most notably.)
